I could never use these as a professional reader. I mean who would take me seriously if I showed them that I was reading from the Barbie Tarot?

I would take you very seriously as a tarot reader with the Barbie deck if I were a young girl of twelve to seventeen and my mother hired you as the entertainment for my birthday party. That’s a fabulous idea actually. I want!

I went yesterday and had a look. I bust out laughing, especially at the “Chariot”, which some one else had pointed out. Has anyone heard the really irritating and annoying song… “I’m a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie World?”

I can imagine doing a reading with that deck, with that music. The image satisfies my sense of the ridiculous and makes me grin like a loon when I think of it.

Definately NOT a deck for a serious read (in my opinion) but would be great fun in a party setting, IF the song was playing in the background ( “You can brush my hair, take me anywhere…. I’m made of plastic, it’s FANTASTIC!”) and if I had had a lot to drink!

Never been a barbie girl… the only time I played with them was when I was 13, and What Ken and Barbie were doing was obscene, but we all thought it was a hoot at the time!

C’mon, lighten up. I don’t think these “Barbie Tarot” images were meant to be taken seriously …look at the Housewives Tarot or The Baseball Tarot or most of the billions of “Cat” Tarots (I mean really, the “Hello Kitty” Tarot?!). There are plenty of humorous decks out there. Take them in the light-hearted way they are intended. I mean when you get right down to it, using Tarot as a divination tool is also a “degradation” as the Tarot was never meant to be applied in that manner…that truly trivializes the cards’ actual historic nature. However, things change and morph as did the Tarot. Humor helps us deal with the day to day tensions and global horrors that are now our daily reality; humor being applied to the Tarot is a natural.
