Can tarot cards turn evil?

As I was browsing online the other day I found this interesting post that I thought would be something to make a good discussion on. In this post the person stated that there once friendly and happy tarot cards had turned evil on them.

“I have a gothic tarot deck by Anne Stokes. It was very positive. always telling me great things with a bright future. Always having a positive love life with a certain somebody. Always having the same outcome for the same people. Until I started doing readings on other people and one person I guess touched the deck ( I didn’t witness it but I did see her pant leg touch it, and I was told they touched it while I was outside. ) and ever since then it’s been very cruel to me. And my love life. Telling me my best quality is that I’m psychotic… it use to be so kind to me.”

The question that arises from the statement is can tarot cards turn evil on you? Or does another person touching your tarot deck transfer their energy onto them.

Now it’s not unheard of for a tarot reader to let people touch their deck, but more often than not you’ll see that most are against this practice. The belief system is that if someone else comes in touch with your cards that the negativity transfers to them. In some cases the readers do what they can to cleanse the cards like using Sage. In other cases some will  cleanse them by using salt, or even a flame to dispel negativity. Some also believe that if the cards have too much negativity in them you should either throw them out, rip them up one by one or burn them.

In regards to another person touching the cards and bringing more negative energy to them you have to ask yourself is it possible for somebody to be able to do that, or is it a negative connotation that you have of that person that is causing you to feel as though your cards have become negative. Some people believe this can happen, and others are on the opposite side of the Coin.

How to Cleanse your tarot cards:

My personal opinion is that when you use tarot cards sometimes subconsciously you might not be noticing that you’re asking the same questions over and over again. This in fact could give a more negative spin on the questions that you’re asking. The best choice that you can do in these circumstances is to put those cards away for the time being and come back to them at a later time when things feel more refreshed or after a cleansing using the above method or others. If you choose to read using those cards again and you have the same outcome as before in a negative way, take the opportunity at this point to buy a new tarot deck or do what you can to totally cleanse them of this energy if you feel as though you haven’t done enough the first time.

The cards itself is not generate negative energy. But people who have touched it might give out their own energy and the cards just collect those energy. And sometimes people do give out bad thought, or some other form of negative energy. Or just simply the energy that the reader doesn’t like. Similar to the case that when you see some people, and you like or dislike them straight away.

I’ve heard many references made about “negative energy” imposed upon the cards by an outsider or by the reader himself. This is often spoken of in regards to “cleansing” the cards of “negative energy” to clear them for the next Quirent.

But it strikes me that the purpose of the cards is to act as visual a tool, a touchstone as it were – in other words a jumping off point for our own spiritual vision. If that is the case, then they can only reflect what lies within the user.

It all depends on your belief system Selftaught. Some people believe that the negative energy can rub off on the cards and others not so much.
