Lord of the Rings Oracle Review

By insightful | retired

created by Terry Donaldson; illustrated by Peter Pracownik; game rules by Mike Fitzgerald

published by US Games Systems, 1997

The deck includes an anonymous pamphlet which explains the tarot and this deck. Upright meanings are given for all cards, and reversed meanings for the major arcana, and these are the standard US Games Systems interpretations. The Celtic Cross spread is explained, and readers are encouraged to use the deck for meditation. The game rules are quite complicated: the game is played by 2-6 people, and mirrors the good vs. evil battle in the books.

The set also includes the companion book, a chart for the 7 card Gandalf spread, a title card, and a quick reference card for the game.

Suits: Cups, Swords, Wands (depicted as braziers), Coins (depicted as red disks printed with a black maze)

Court cards: King, Queen, Knight, Page
